Cheong Fatt Tze remains one of my favourite UNESCO buildings in the whole of Penang to visit and this is why I chose to have our wedding there!

We booked the entire venue and all of us who stayed there for a few nights absolutely loved it!

The blue building itself is amazing, so full of character and the old peranakan and chinese decor have been preserved and maintained superbly. It is like stepping into the 19th century as it gives you a glimpse of how merchant tycoons lead their lives previously.

Each of the 18 rooms has its own unique ancient Chinese theme and antique decor. Some have a rustic feel whereas others come equipped with a jacuzzi. The bathrooms all have beautiful black and white floor tiles and a modern feel. Loved the rooms but my absolute favourite area is the open air well area where we had our first dance as husband and wife and also where the awesome after party was with DJ Leroy spinning. Our Chinese tea ceremony was also held there. The large round lanterns floating above the air well area resemble moons at night and gives the arena a magical feel entirely different to that of daytime.

It is no wonder the place conducts 2 daily tours as a museum. There’s just so much history to absorb and the moment step in, your senses are immediately rewarded with beautiful sights.

Hardware aside, I must stress that the real reason why the stay was so special was because of the people who ran it. Daniel, the Blue Mansion manager, treated us like family from day one. He is such a generous and accommodating host and tried to accommodate all our whims and fancies with regards to the wedding. He genuinely cares for the wellbeing for his hotel guests and ensures that everyone is well looked after. We were so lucky to have met Daniel and his team of capable staff that made our big day extra special and one that our wedding guests will never forget. Each person we encountered daily had a big grin and said hi to us and chatted like we were old mates! Absolutely love this kampung friendly vibe going on within this place. We will never forget the kindness and generosity of dear Daniel and I believe I owe him lunch and coffee the next time I’m back in Penang!

Speaking of food, our wedding dinner was held at Indigo, the classy yet cosy in-house restaurant. We had the privilege of tasting almost everything on the menu to select our wedding menu and I must say every dish was delicious!! It made it difficult to settle for just 3 choices of mains. So please drop and by and give your test buds a treat it deserves! Ong, the restaurant Manager will not fail to impress you with his professional service skills and vast F&B knowledge. Kudos to chef Weng for coming up with dishes like lamb rendang with biryani, wagyu beef with truffle mash, Atlantic salmon with nasi kerabu & desserts like pandan Creme bruleé and gula melaka tiramisu. Simply love the Asian twist of the usual western suspects.

So whatever it is you are doing, please make an excuse to visit this place. Be it for insanely good food at Indigo or an unforgettable stay at one of the most unique mansion’s in the world or perhaps to get married even! Make your way to The Blue Mansion aka Cheong Fatt Tze! I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Your eyes and soul will thank you for it!

Sekian. Terima kasih.
