THE TOWN HOUSES
19th century tycoon Cheong Fatt Tze was renowned for many things, his rags-to-riches story, business acumen, political ties and of course, his vision in building The Blue Mansion as his private residence, an oasis to escape to right in the bustling heart of George Town.
Nearly 120 years on, the restored mansion is an icon of the city. The details brought together by Cheong’s eclectic and discerning eye and lovingly restored by heritage architect Laurence Loh still stand out today, as much as they did in the late 19th century.
In the past 100 years, the city has evolved, but at its core, the mansion has endured, providing its residents, guests and visitors with the unique opportunity to experience George Town’s living heritage right from its beating heart.
It is with this guiding spirit that we have sought to curate a collection of townhouses by The Blue Mansion, each unique, yet united in providing an unparalleled heritage experience of George Town, Penang. These are located in the heart of the city, which means that staying here, you can choose to truly live like a local – experiencing the sights, sounds and spirit of George Town, from the sanctuary of your own “home”.
THE BLUE MANSION
A boutique stay combining old-world grandeur with the luxury of modern day conveniences
There are 18 spacious and exclusive rooms fringing the tranquil inner courtyards of this restored, 130-year old heritage mansion. Each room is uniquely adorned and intricately furnished to suit its theme, centred around the passions and history of the great Cheong Fatt Tze himself and the mansion’s current custodians.
Depending on the category of room, you will also experience different facets of the mansion during your stay, be it the oriental garden and pool, the open courtyards, the intricate cast ironwork or the indulgence of your own jacuzzi.
Take a step back into Penang’s glorious history and make yourself at home within the exclusivity of our compound. George Town city unfurls at our very doorstep, allowing you the freedom to explore at your leisure, then return to the comfort and tranquility of the mansion for a well deserved rest.
The Blue Mansion has also introduced its Townhouses, two standalone, meticulously restored 100-year-old shophouses in inner city George Town, which offer complete privacy and all the added perks of The Blue Mansion.
THE QING SUITES
The Qing Suites are a new chapter in the story of our iconic Blue Mansion.
80 metres across the street from the mansion, the suites lay within the annexe – what was once a row of five terrace houses serving as servants’ quarters, built by Cheong Fatt Tze in 1904. The annexe had fallen into disrepair, an asset eventually separated from the main mansion.
In 2020, our bid to reunite these two parts was accepted and we began planning the restoration and designing the conversion, only for work to be thwarted by the pandemic.
This tranquil sanctuary was finally unveiled in 2025, and here, thirteen suites and a traditional Chinese medicine-focused spa await, inviting you to experience the serenity of Oriental wellness traditions, whilst immersing yourself in the vibrant heritage of George Tow
