Day 1
2pm Check-In: Arrive at our Front Hall, enjoy a quick glass of nutmeg juice and settle into your bedroom. Join us at 3pm for the tour of the mansion, conducted by one of our heritage guides. We will be thrilled to tell you tales of the house, stories about the man for which the house was built and perhaps even find out why your room is named the way it is. After your tour of the property, sit down to relax and savour a selection of Nyonya Pastries and a piping hot bowl of Assam Laksa. Afternoon Tea is a sedate but spicy affair at Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion. If you’re up for a walk, ask any of the staff for a special map. We’ll mark the best places to visit and even recommend places to get some of the most delicious food in town. People from all over come to Penang to eat – schedules revolve around favourite foods and where to find it.

8p.m: Filled with some of the most delicious food, in the quirkiest of places. The city is a secret treasure trove of gastronomic delights. And nothing beats the local perspective. We’ll send you off this evening, to a local restaurant. A selection of dishes will be traditionally prepared to form a fitting end to your first day in the city.

Day 2
8a.m: Served alfresco in our Central Courtyard, our breakfasts are a hearty affair. From your orange juice to our famous omelettes, we take great pains to ensure that your most important meal of the day is nutritious and fabulously healthy. Homemade yoghurt and jam, premium muesli and cereals are hard to beat. Sip from a cup of freshly ground coffee and fine Cameronian tea. Bite into the freshest fruit and our signature wholemeal bread, baked especially for you by our favourite boutique boulangerie, will prepare you for your exciting day ahead. 10:30a.m: A quick spin on a trishaw is the most fun way to survey the neighbourhood, watch the city awaken, mark down places you’d like to see and take pictures on-the-go. Return to the house and plan the rest of your day with us. We are ever-ready to give you all sorts of recommendations. We’ll tell you where the best stalls are, which streets we love, where lush gardens are situated or if you feel like a bit of pampering, even where to get your hair cut or have a facial treatment and manicure. Whatever you decide to do, remember to order from one of us, a refreshing plate of fruit to keep your energies up.

8p.m: Join us for dinner. Tonight, we will show you Penang’s most famous cuisine. Nyonya food is a feast for the senses! Indigenous to the old Straits Settlements, these secret recipes are passed down from one generation to the other. We guarantee that you won’t find anything else quite like it. And before you know it, a second helping of rice will be de rigeur.

Day 3
8am: Come down for breakfast in the Central Courtyard. Be sure to come in loose and light clothes and comfortable shoes; a walk around the city’s Heritage Enclaves awaits you. Bring plenty of water, hats and slather on the sun cream. One of our UNESCO Certified Heritage Guides will take you on a walking journey of discovery that takes you into the lives of craftsmen who make prayer
joss-sticks by hand, produce personalised signboards engraved out of timber and other endangered trades. Witness festivities that make up the daily affairs in religious sites and spaces. Find out why some the facades of certain houses are recessed from their neighbours, the differing architectural styles and the superstitions behind quirky design principles in action.

Noon: Your Heritage Walk ends in Little India. Awash with colour and bustling with activity, Little India is the place to find exotic herbs and spices, rare essences and beautiful textiles. People even get their eyebrows threaded in this part of the old Inner City! When in Little India, a banana leaf meal is a must. And just as the name suggests, steaming hot rice, spicy curries and gravies accompanied by a generous serving of condiments are served on a banana frond. Cutlery is available but a quick look around you will confirm that almost everyone prefers to eat with fingers instead. If you’re adventurous, be prepared to go ‘knuckle-deep’ and do as the locals do.

After lunch, come back and cool off with a plate of freshly-cut fruit. A siesta might be necessary after all the activities of the day. Butlers are available to attend to your every need. We will be thrilled to offer advice on what to do, see and yes, eat!

Day 4
When you’re done with breakfast, a Butler will present a set of specially-made postcards of the house. Don’t forget to mention us when you write your family and friends.
